A Local’s Take: Charlotte, NC

This Local’s Take is brought to us by Sneha Minisandram. Sneha is a Charlotte girl, born and raised. She lives and works in Columbia, SC, but tries to make it back to her home city as often as possible. Enjoy!

Charlotte, North Carolina is a rapidly growing metropolis located in southern North Carolina. With a booming banking and IT industry, this city has grown to become an extremely cosmopolitan city. That being said, Charlotte has something for everyone. I know most cities claim to have this quality, but Charlotte definitely delivers on it.

For the Musicians and Artists: The Evening Muse
This music venue and occasional art gallery is located in the newly renovated Charlotte neighborhood called North Davidson (NoDa). The area is teeming with creativity and artistic talent, the Evening Muse being no exception. Check out this venue for some unique, up and coming talent in both music and art.

For the Fashionistas: Southpark Mall
Southpark Mall is located in the upscale Charlotte neighborhood of Southpark. The opportunity to peruse the selection that this mall has to offer is a dream come true for fashion lovers. For the high rollers out there, this mall boasts stores ranging from Neiman Marcus and Louis Vuitton to Tiffany’s and Coach. For those of us with tighter purse strings, window-shopping can be just as fun!

For the Coffee Lovers and Foodies: Amelie’s French Bakery
Also located in the up and coming North Davidson neighborhood, this French bakery has all the sweet treats and coffee delights that any one could want! The inside of the cafe is designed to be thought-provoking and quirky. Every corner has another decoration to capture and appreciate. With sinfully sweet tortes and macarons to smooth, rich coffee, Amelie’s is sure to please!

For the Adrenaline Junkies: U.S. National Whitewater Center
This center has activities ranging from beginner to expert level. There are rapids to be tamed and a zip-line to be conquered. There is also a rock climbing wall and other land activities if water isn’t your thing. This center is a haven for those who love the great outdoors and the activities that go along with it.

This is just a quick overview of a few of the various things that Charlotte has to offer. Having transplanted out of the city to South Carolina for school and work, I can honestly say that I miss the diversity and fun that the city has to offer. I hope that the Queen City treats you well and shows you a fabulous time!
